NC OBC means non creamy layer which means any candidate belonging to OBC and having family income less than 6 lakh p.a. belongs to this non creamy layer and they will be given the benefits of reservation whereas, any OBC candidate having income above 6 LPA are not eligible for reservation.

Although fees of IIMs are sky high, they indeed are government institutes, and as with other government institutes and colleges, they too comply with the central government reservation policy. The aim of the policy is to support people from the backward sections of society or students having lack of resources to be able to get admission into its colleges.

Below is a table showing the percentage wise reservations for each of the categories at IIMs.

As could be seen from the table. Students from the NC(Non-Creamy) OBC categories enjoys a reservation of 27% of the total seats. This means that out of total 6746 seats in the IIMs 1821 seats are reserved for the NC-OBC Category.

The cut-offs for the OBC category are slightly on the higher end compared to that of other categories, but of course they are less than that for the general category candidates.

Students belonging to the OBC category and the beneficiary of the reservation policy must ensure that they have a valid NC-OBC Certificate as the document of proof. This document would be required on multiple occasions during the Admission Process.
